I believe we are all wired to heal and grow, no matter how great our suffering, and that healing and growth can occur in a relationship that is safe, genuine, affirming, collaborative, and deeply caring. This is the type of connection I aim to create with my clients.
A lot of my work is about helping people to gain more awareness of their emotions, thoughts, and beliefs; the factors that have shaped these (like earlier life experiences, family dynamics, oppression, and societal expectations); and how people’s emotions, thoughts, and beliefs influence how they show up in the world. This self-awareness opens up space for people to develop self-compassion and achieve clarity about who they are and what matters to them. From there, I support people in identifying and making changes to improve their relationships (with themselves and others) and to live more a more liberated, authentic life.
My style as a therapist is down-to-earth, interactive, warm, affirming, and transparent. I value how people’s identities and past experiences have influenced who they are and how they view the world. I meet people where they are, and I challenge them appropriately. I pay attention and respond to what’s happening for clients in the moment. Although I focus on distress, I also make space for humor, delight, celebration, and joy.
I am guided by relational psychodynamic, AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), and decolonial feminist multicultural therapies. I incorporate mindfulness practices, somatic techniques, and interventions from CBT and DBT.
I welcome individuals of all races, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, body sizes, ethnicities/national origins, and religious/spiritual affiliations.
This sculpture is called “Freedom.” It’s by Zenos Frudakis and is located in Philadelphia, PA on 16th & Vine. To me, it symbolizes what healing can feel like and what good therapy can look like… providing the right conditions for you to break free from the messages, beliefs, past harms, and patterns that have kept you constricted and stuck in parts of your life.
